I find there are so many teachers sending emails at the same time. There is almost no time to read everything to then start the homework on top of it all.
There seems less and less time of teachers talking with children.
Oh yes. This was very evident last year when my son was a sophomore. One thing that drove me nuts is trying to figure out if he has missing work. His Engineering teacher wouldn’t update Canvas with the info, but would wait until the end & then I’m trying to back track with my son why some things were done & other things were not. He lost the video or didn’t update this online Engineering notebook or it was only formative work worth 10% only & wasn’t worth it I’m told by my son. That is a whole another topic – formative work & whether it makes sense to keep nagging your kid for those assignments. Then time that by 7 classes, it gets exhausting as a parent to figure out.
This is so important. I was busy with a Gr 10 student on Saturday and we wasted most of the sessions moving around in Google Classroom to find everything that the child needed for his English Literature test. There were different stuff posted on different days and to find all relevant info is a huge challenge. This is a frustrating task on a cell phone!!
Another problem… It’s not good for a child with ADD to learn from PP slides on a device. The work must be in hard copy format. Printing is expensive and if the background colour is dark, it uses a lot of ink to print the slides. He should have printed everything before the session, but we know a child with EF problems thinks they have everything they need with them!!
I wanted to help the child with his learning process for the test, but most of the session was wasted. So I agree totally with this vlog!! A very common problem I experience all the time too.
